Date: Mon Feb 5, 2001 7:53pm This is for everyone, especially Joey. I am almost 2 and a half years post 3.5 days exposure to Wellbutrin. I wound up in ER via 911 with an acute dystonic reaction, now have documented neuro movement disorder problems which require the use of an anticonvulsant, (which I HATE having to take.!) I lost my mind for months, hiding it the whole time so as not to be pegged "whack case", and my medical records are over 3 inches thick since taking the drug...It would take forever to describe my own personal nightmare, but you all must know that there IS hope. I am now a part of a research team. We are finding out much about my particular poison, planning on taking on the rest down the road, working feverishly on producing scientific proof that these drugs can and do blow us out of the water. I can say no more than that at this time. The reason I am writing is that, as a group, we have found that the use of antioxidants, at least 6,000 to 12,000 mgs of vitamin C and around 4,000 I.U or more of vitamin E, along with the B-complex vitamins help fight the extreme free radical damage being done to our brains and bodies that oftimes continues to occur post drug cessation. Antioxidants are especially helpful when having to take other drugs to counteract the intolerable after effects of the original drug insult. Though we all struggle with our myriad of symptoms, this seems to help a lot. It must be made clear that I am only sharing what we have found to be helpful for us. I'm afraid to even offer anything, not wanting to add to the harm already done in so many. So I send this off with the advice to check out the possibility of this approach for yourselves. I know only too well the horror and hell that Bob may be experiencing. Each of ours is unique and indescribable, defying definition. I've been there, as so many of you and/or your loved ones have...Yes, God is very important here. Very. The discoveries we have made and continue to make have come only from his hand. Praying for all, Collissa Date: Mon Feb 5, 2001 9:38pm Response: Thanks Colissa for your response. Yes there are ways to assist the recovery to these drugs and every discovery on that is very very welcome. I myself discovered the incredible power of the ancient herb Ginkgo Biloba which is not only a natural MAO inhibitor but also repairs membrane fluidity of damaged brain cells. It actually creates more receptor sites on serotonergic brain cells and the ginkgosides work as herbal antioxidants throughout the body, and enhance the microcirculation of capillary beds throughout the body. This is why Ginkgo Biloba is beneficial not only to our damaged brain but all organs that have rich blood supplies, including the heart, liver, kidneys, lungs, and spleen, to mention only a few. The problem with any vitamin or herb is that the nervous system of someone who just had a reaction to an SSRI can NOT bear anything. It's like doing your time in prison untill the nervous system has found a bit of it's own natural balance again. Ofcourse we walked that same route. In my situation I could not bear anything for at least 1,5 years. Now I am taking Ginkgo Biloba a 100mg daily and I must say it worked for me. Trisha, also a member of this group experienced very positive things with Inositol which belongs to the vit-B group. Well there is so much to learn yet and I hope you will discover more in the future about how these SSRI's scrambled our brains or must I say our serotonergic system and if there are possabilities to enlighten the suffering of their victims... Charly
